Foundation De Groene Koepel, te gast in de natuur came into being in 2014 following the merger of the foundations which used to administer the Natural Campsites and Hiker’s Cabins networks (Foundation Natuurkampeerterreinen and Foundation Trekkershutten Nederland). Today, our mission is to promote the interests of all ‘green’ tourist accommodation, including the Natural Campsites, the Hiker’s Cabins and the Group Natural Campsites. You can read our full mission statement and the underlying vision here. General information about all our activities can be found at www.degroenekoepel.nl.
The concept of Natural Campsites is even older than our organisation and dates from 1975. De Groene Koepel does not own any of the sites but acts as a certification body. We monitor the campsites to ensure compliance with our strict quality guidelines. Only accredited Natural Campsites are entitled to display the official green and white sign, and only these sites are listed in the Green Guide and our other publications. The application procedure for accreditation can be found here. All Natural Campsites are visited by inspectors at least once every other year to ensure that they continue to observe the required standards. This is how we safeguard quality on behalf of the general public.
